What I want out of my writing...

Thu Oct 15, 2009, 2:22 PM
NOTE: I have read and carefully regarded all comments to my last journal...unfortunately, I have no idea how to respond. Thank you all for your advice and I'm sorry ^^;

I stumbled across an LJ topic a few minutes ago that read: If you were to publish a book (regardless of genre) what do you want out of it?

Here are most people's responses:
-Inspire other writers
-To make money off of doing something they love
-Become famous
-Make a franchise (I.E. Action figures, posters, the whole enchilada)
-Nothing

Anyway, both the question and the various answers got me thinking about what I would want if I was ever published, whether it was next week or in 50 years. To be honest...I have no idea what I would want ^^;

I don't even think I have the right to concentrate on the aftermath of a book...all my energy needs to be going into just writing the goddamn thing. Heaven knows I've been a lazy procrastinator. I mean sure, it would be awesome to have people inspired by my characters and whatnot, but really...given that I barely have three chapters that I'm happy with under my belt (Needless to say, they still need a SHITTON of editing and I have to do a lot of research into the Russian military, weaponry, nuclear physics, and international politics...T-T) I don't feel like I can dream of the future.

Anyway, what are everyone else's thoughts on this? I just want to see how many like-minded friends and watchers I've got. If your opinion differs, please share!

Seeing as I have the 'doujin' mentality going on, I just want people to enjoy what I do. I, unfortunately, have nothing else going on.
Immortal Vampire is about an Immortal Vampire who never wanted to be a vampire or immortal but was experimented on by a sorcerer/wizard/alchemist and he wants to kill all of the other experiments that harm mankind (he has never killed or feasted on a human as a vampire, outside of when he first got turned into an immortal vampire), and he is taking advantage of the fact that he can't be killed to try to protect humanity.
Punk Wars is about a chaotic steampunk world where a single terrorist is trying to plunge the seemingly utopic country into absolute chaos inspiring anarchy and cyberpunks to follow in his wake. The main character, Jay, just wants to take him down for being half-killed by him and because, as much as Jay hates the government, the terrorist is going about it the wrong way.
The other one that I just dreamt up the other night is about a quantum physicist who discovers an ancient religion that spoke of a Goddess of death and destruction was very much real, and that She is about to awaken and destroy all of mankind. Or so it seems; he (the physicist) constantly proves that he is a very sketchy and dark person. It's almost impossible to know whether he wants to save or destroy mankind, but if they don't follow along with him, they're doomed regardless.

Anyway, it's nothing too serious; I'm not trying to get rich off of it, I'm not trying to inspire people. I just want to get seemingly awesome (to me) ideas I think up down on paper and hopefully have people read and like them. It's all in fun. Like I said; doujin-mentality.

I'd encourage to go all out with your stories. There is always an adventure waiting to be had and if by setting foot into the unknown is too dangerous, write it out. Imagine any and all possibility. Roam freely without fear into this hazy void.

After all, You've got the potential for it. That's why I want to turn your story into an online graphic novel sometime soon.

Tip:
Watch a lot of Sci Fi.
Helps.
